Just when they're showing a glimmer of sense...

It seems that the New Jersey State legislature has seen fit, in it's infinite *cough* wisdom, to allow the nonsensical "Quick Release" Bill to die a quiet unlamented death with the closure of the 2006-2007 legislative session.

That is, unless Rep. Paul Moriarty decides to try and impress his constituency with his concern with their well-being while at the same time insulting their intelligence by reintroducing this item of legalistic offal for the 2008 session.

What it all boiled down to was that he felt something like a quick-release hub on a bicycle wheel was just too darn complicated for the average citizen to understand and, therefore, must be legislated into submission.

Unfortunately, for him, this drew the attention of cyclists and the bicycle industry and that raised an unholy stink over it which I'm sure had a lot to do with the legislature letting this bill slip into obscurity.

My personal opinion on the matter is that if you're incapable of doing the simplest of maintenance tasks on your vehicle, whatever that vehicle may be, whether it's a bike or a semi truck, such as checking the air in your tires, making sure they're properely secured, and things of that nature, you should just park it before you do yourself some serious mischief.

This is just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
